Shasta High Schools lively rendition of Guys and Dolls rolls into the David Marr theater May 4th, 2012.

Guys and Dolls is the story of a group of gamblers in New York and the ladies in their lives. Sky has been bet that he can't make the next lady that he sees fall in love with him, and when that next lady happens to be the prim and proper neighborhood missionary Sarah Brown, the stage is set for an evening of high-spirited entertainment.

This is a fun show that truly showcases what musical comedy is supposed to be; great songs,” “I’ll Know”, “My Time Of Day”, “Luck Be A Lady”. “Sit Down, You’re Rockin The Boat, “Guys and Dolls” and the beautiful “More I Cannot Wish You” great characters and an amazing cast.

When: May 4th, 5th and 6ths and May 10th, 11th and 12th.

Silent Film Festival Comes to Redding

Shasta Silent Film Festival

On Saturday, I had the pleasure of running into Debra Lucero of The Shasta Arts Council. She was manning the Shasta Silent Film Festival Booth at Barnes and Nobel, helping to raise awareness of the festival.

Since this was on the Redding Night Out calendar I introduced myself and struck up a conversation. I was so glad that I did because I had no idea how wonderful, rare and special the Shasta Silent Film Festival is.

These aren’t just silent films; they are fully restored works or art. When you go you will get to experience real film passing through the projector gate as it brings life to motion in it’s most natural way. You will experience romance, great sets, wonderful costumes and fabulous photography. It will be a feast for your eyes and your ears as you experience “Charlie Chaplin” and “Underworld” accompanied by the live and captivating music of noted ragtime and stride pianist Frederick Hodges. You will enjoy the comedy, the laughter and the genius of early film makers. And maybe, just maybe, you’ll get to show your kids History in the form of Art! Good Stuff!

Most importantly you will experience something rare. This collection of films, is only made available to a few venues throughout the year. Our own Shasta Arts Council is lucky enough to be one of those venues, but we only get access to the collection once a year! So don’t miss it.

Angora Love – Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy Get adopted by a goat
Pass the Gravy - an elaborate plot – leading to a food fight of course
It’s a Gift - the Snub Pollard Masterpiece perfectly embodies the spirit of the Roaring Twenties

7:30 PM – Underworld (1927) preceded by Musketeers of Pig Alley (1912) – these films are hailed as the First Gangster Films.

Saturday October 22nd the laughter continues:

10:00am - Master of the House (1925)

12:00pm - The Kid (1921) Charles Chaplin

2:00pm - Clash of the Wolves(1925)

4:30pm - When the Clouds Roll By(1919)

7:30 – The Iron Horse – (1922)

And So it Begins….

The idea behind Blog Redding first came to life in September 2010. The idea was very simple – highlight Redding area businesses and help connect our community to the diverse products and services available.

We started, but life and other business responsibilities got in the way so this project sat by the sidelines. Our vision never went away, the timing just wasn’t right. Our commitment to moving forward stayed strong.

Today, a full year later, we are revisiting this vision and are putting it into action. In the past several months we have launched Redding Night Out, a website that connects our wonderful community to the events and businesses in our area.

Blog Redding is a critical component of the Redding Night Out vision. We provide information and news on our area businesses, non-profits, charities, schools, bars, restaurants and personalities and shopping.
